XII. ICGPPI Conference Background
The International Conference on Green Plant Protection Innovation (ICGPPI) has been established as a premier global platform for academic exchange in plant protection, steadfastly fostering in-depth collaboration and innovative dialogue among agricultural scientists worldwide. Focused on cutting-edge advancements in plant protection, the conference systematically showcases the latest research in green plant protection technologies. Through high-level international academic exchanges, it facilitates profound discussions on breakthroughs in novel theories, technologies, and methodologies, accelerating the R&D and application of eco-friendly pest control solutions to underpin global agricultural sustainability and green transformation.
Since its inception in 2018, ICGPPI has successfully convened five editions across China hosted in Boao (Hainan), Guiyang (Guizhou), Taiyuan (Shanxi), Qingdao (Shandong), and Wuhan (Hubei). Over these years, it has evolved into a globally recognized academic forum, attracting over 300 participants from more than 20 countries/regions, including China, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Italy, Switzerland, New Zealand, Finland, and Sri Lanka. Attendees ranging from academicians and industry leaders to corporate representatives have collectively advanced plant protection innovation through rigorous exchanges, contributing expertise to agricultural green development.
Marking a milestone in its internationalization, the conference 2026 will debut overseas in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the ‘Crossroads of the East’, with the theme “Green Plant Protection Innovation Drives Sustainable Agricultural Development.” With a pioneering feature, this conference will anchor the core agenda of the inaugural China - Sri Lanka Agricultural Technology & Culture Exchange Week. This overseas conference not only heralds a new chapter for ICGPPI’s global reach but also injects fresh momentum into worldwide plant protection innovation, opening doors for enhanced international collaboration.
China - Sri Lanka Agricultural Technology and Culture Exchange Week
Sri Lanka, renowned as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” and a pivotal hub of the ancient Maritime Silk Road, has seen deepening bilateral cooperation with China in agriculture, technology, culture, and education under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). To further strengthen China - Sri Lankan collaboration in agricultural science and youth talent development, the China - Sri Lanka Belt and Road Joint Laboratory of Tea Green Prevention and Control Technology will host this inaugural Exchange Week. Highlights include the 6th ICGPPI, “Guizhou Village Super Leagu”’ Football Cultural Exchange along the Silk Road, China - Sri Lanka Tea Green Protection Technology Symposium, Field Demonstrations (e.g., tea plantation tour).
China - Sri Lanka Belt and Road Joint Laboratory of Tea Green Prevention and Control Technology
Approved by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, this national-level platform builds on bilateral scientific cooperation initiated in 2016. Sri Lanka pays a special attention to green plant protection and mountain agriculture development as a crucial segment of ensuring food security. Focusing on green pest control solutions for mountainous tea plantations in both countries, the laboratory establishes an integrated R&D demonstration application platform to provide robust technological support for people connectivity among Belt and Road countries. Currently uniting multiple Chinese and Sri Lankan universities and enterprises in deep collaboration, the laboratory is co-led by Guizhou University in China and University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka as core institutions, with key contributions from Central China Normal University and Sri Lanka's Tea Research Institute. Additional partners include Qingdao KingAgroot Crop Science in China and Wayamba University and University of Colombo in Sri Lanka. They further strengthen the consortium with plans to expand membership and leverage each partner's expertise in tea green protection technologies to ensure sustainable development. The laboratory aims to become an internationally influential innovation hub and technology demonstration base, committing to advancing scientific cooperation and cultural ties under the Belt and Road Initiative.
