Supported by the international cooperation project of China’s National Key R&D Program, the inaugural China-EU Joint Annual Meeting on Key Technological Innovation Cooperation Research for IPM in Agriculture, along with the first China-Europe Symposium on Innovation and Development of IPM in Agriculture, was successfully held in Guiyang, China from October 27 to November 2, 2024. This meeting brought together 28 experts from seven European countries and 13 representatives from Chinese partner organizations to collaboratively advance scientific and technological innovation in IPM in Agriculture.
During the event, Bao-an Song, President of Guizhou University, attended the opening ceremonies of both the China-EU Joint Annual Meeting and the China-Europe Symposium, delivering a speech at each to warmly welcome representatives from both Europe and China. Director Song Yang and Deputy Director Shou-hai An of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Science and Technology delivered opening remarks at the Annual Meeting and Symposium respectively. Project leaders Nicolas Desneux, representing the European side, and Lian-sheng Zang, representing the Chinese side, each provided a brief introduction to the project's progress at the opening ceremonies.
The China-Europe Annual Meeting featured a rich agenda, including brief introductions of participating institutions to enhance mutual understanding, roundtable discussions on project management, collaborative meetings, and sessions for reporting and exchanging updates on project progress. Additionally, delegates visited the State Key Laboratory of Green Pesticides at Guizhou University and the IPM demonstration base of protected tomatoes, gaining insights into the latest research achievements and practical applications in this field in China.
The Symposium offered an enriching academic experience for all participants. Eighteen distinguished experts and scholars from China and Europe shared their latest research progress in the field of IPM for crop pests and diseases. Notably, Academician Bao-an Song delivered a keynote address on the green prevention and control of tea plant diseases and insect pests.
The meetings successfully concluded on November 1st, 2024. After several days of exchange and discussion, the event yielded fruitful results. Participants noted that the meetings not only deepend mutual understanding and collaboration between China and Europe in the field of IPM in agriculture but also contributed valuable insights and efforts toward the sustainable development of global agriculture. They expressed their anticipation for continued exchanges and cooperation in the future to jointly advance innovation and development in crop IPM technology.
